📋 Typologies is a series of short workshops by APRDELESP in which a group of students quickly and collectively investigates a city by identifying, photographing, drawing, and writing about a specific typology. After a brief introduction and discussion, the students find a spatial typology of interest. This could be, for example, something that is unique to a city or a region, such as tortillerías, cantinas or fondas in Mexico, or something that is undergoing a transformation, such as a kind of street vendor that is disappearing from a quickly gentrifying neighborhood. Then, the group is split into pairs, and each pair draws by hand, quickly and simply, an instance of the collectively selected typology. Finally, based on their findings and discussions, each duo writes a vignette, accompanied by an image, about a single aspect of the typology that they selected. Everything (the photographs, the drawings, and the collective text) will be published on this public website, which will become an archive of our continuous research on typologies.
